Detox Programs
Time for a spring clean?
Toxins are very common in today’s world. Environmental toxins include heavy metals, pesticides, chemicals, food additives, drugs and pollutants which are present in the air, water and food that we consume.
Toxins can also be generated internally by ‘unfriendly’ bacteria, yeasts and parasites in your digestive system. These internally-generated toxins are then absorbed into your bloodstream, affecting your health and vitality. Your liver will attempt to eliminate all these toxins, however, it often needs a helping hand if you produce, consume or absorb more toxins than you can easily get rid of.
Symptoms of toxicity can include:
- Fatigue
- headaches
- body odour
- digestive problems, such as constipation,
- bad breath,
- wind, and
- skin complaints
Toxicity can also hide more serious conditions such as allergies, auto-immune disorders, arthritis, inflammatory bowel disorders.
Detoxification within our bodies is a complex process that requires several steps to be completed effectively. It is important to ensure that you do not simply pull toxins from deep within the tissues only to reabsorb them – it is vital that you also neutralise these toxins and effectively eliminate them. A good starting point of a healthy detoxification program is to reduce the toxic load coming from your diet.
-
Eat plenty of fresh seasonal fruit and vegetables. If you can, buy organic, if not, be sure to wash them well.
-
Drink 2 litres of filtered water per day and avoid alcohol, caffeinated beverages, soft drinks, and commercial fruit drinks/juices.
-
Enjoy a wide variety of fresh, healthy snacks and avoid overly processed and refined snacks which may be contain artificial colours, flavours, additives, flavour enhancers and hydrogenated fats.
If you are not sure if you could benefit from a detox, then ask yourself these questions:
- Are you often tired or lethargic?
- Do you regularly suffer from bloating, diarrhoea, constipation or other digestive disturbances?
- Do you get recurrent headaches?
- Does you suffer from poor short-term memory and reduced concentration?
- Do you have allergies or sensitivities?
- Are you irritable and/or moody?
If you answered ‘Yes’ to one or more of these questions, perhaps it’s time to consider a detoxification program.
The modern world is full of many man-made chemicals and it seems that we are not only what we eat, but also what we drink, breathe and touch. Even before you step outside the house in the morning, you are potentially being exposed to a myriad of toxins. Eating breakfast, washing the dishes, applying cosmetics and perfumes, and even having a glass of unfiltered water, can potentially increase your exposure to harmful compounds which may compromise your health and vitality.
The good news is that your body has an amazing ability to eliminate these toxins through its inbuilt detoxification systems. However, sometimes your body can become overwhelmed with accumulated toxins over time, leaving you feeling lethargic, moody and less than 100%.
Using a safe and effective step-by-step detoxification program can help to revitalise your health and wellbeing.
